Service Description

If you are new to woodworking and off to a great start, this class is for you. After this introductory course, you will be able to rent our space and attend more advanced classes. Specifically designed for beginners, in this class you will learn basic wood technology, shop safety and etiquette; you will be introduced to the basic joints and have hands-on experience with the most commonly used woodworking machines. Duration: 2 days, 4h per day Pre-requisite: none Course Content: > Introduction: Start with a captivating overview of woodworking at The Makers Society, where imagination transforms wood into masterpieces. > Safety First: Understand the importance of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) to ensure safe and efficient woodworking. > Understanding Wood: Discover wood's unique characteristics, including moisture content, grain direction, and types of cuts. > Precision in Measurements: Learn about crucial measuring tools, ensuring your projects are accurate and functional. > Hand Tools Mastery: Connect with woodworking's essence using hand tools like chisels and Japanese saws. > Power Tools Efficiency: Speed up your projects using tools like drills, jigsaws, and routers. > Machines Tour: Familiarize yourself with our machinery, making woodworking more streamlined. > Crafting a Toolbox: Put skills into practice by building your toolbox. Please note that this course is offered for participants aged 13 and above. Participants ages 16-17 will not be able to use the machines and can only enter the machine room with a guardian present. For participants aged 13 - 15, they will not be able to enter the machine room and will require a guardian to be present during the course of the workshop.
